The Board of Directors
of the ‘Hellenic Paths’-Ellinika Monopatia-

With two beautiful hikes to Olympia in springtime and a visit to the archeological site, our one day excursion to Olympia was held as programmed on Sunday 4th of March 2018.

The team of Alternative Tourism Grecopaths, the environmental organization “Ellinika Monopatia” (Hellenic Paths), together with the travel office 3T Transfers Travel Tours and the Nature friendly culture club of Ancient Olympia organized the two hikes.

The participation-correspondence of the people was large with over 70 persons of all ages.

The meeting of the two teams, Argos-Nafplio and Olympia, was at 10.00 am in Olympia as planned. They started together and subsequently split up in two teams to continue the two different hikes as had been announced.

The spring time weather, almost like summer, with everything blooming, panoramic views, lush green vegetation and the running water of the Alfeios-Kladeos River made the routes of the hikes unforgettable for the participants.

After the hikes both teams visited the birthplace of the Olympic games with their free leisure time. The pictures of spring time that we lived wandering in the past but experiencing in the moment the introspective history of this place, as well as the race we run with bare feet in the stadium, made us feel for a bit the glory of the victory of the winning athlete and the honor he had while receiving his price the “ketone”…(kotinos in Greek)crown of victory made of olive twigs.

The day ended with a delicious meal at the tavern Ambrosia together with our beloved friend and cooperator Mr. Charis Spiliopoulos, creative spirit and owner of the tavern.

The New Year’s Pie completed the sweet taste of the day with the as always superior creations of the patisserie Athanasopoulos. There were three lucky coins and  their winners!

The day ended with wishes for 2018 from all the participants and the promise that our next visit to Olympia will be to help voluntarily in the cleaning and opening of the two hiking paths that we walked, as it is depending for its maintenance and care exclusively on the effort of the president of the Nature friendly culture club of Ancient Olympia, Mrs. Elke Spiliopoulos.

Our team of Alternative Tourism Grecopaths and the environmental organization “Ellinika Monopatia” has already started its focus on Olympia as a destination, not only cultural but also for alternative tourism activities.

We thank our sponsors: Estate Athanasopoulos, Pasta workshop Mallios, taverna Omorfo Tavernaki and café-bar Alektor.

Special thanks to the well-known  to usMr. Themis Goulionis, doctor and author, who did us the honor to attend our event, and give away his treasure-books with a personal tribute to his admirers.

And for next year, we wished each other health and creation!

Successful presentation of the activities of “Grecopaths” & “Hellenic Paths” (“Ellinika Monopatia”) at HORECA 2018

The team of alternative tourism “GRECOPATHS” and the environmental organization “Hellenic Paths” (“Ellinika Monopatia”) presented their activities at the global  gastronomic forum that the “Chef’s Club” organized at HORECA, Athens.

The founder of the team Grecopaths and the president of”Hellenic Paths” (“Ellinika Monopatia”), Mrs. Stavroula Tsirikou, presented their experience in the field of gastro tourism through the alternative forms of tourism. She explained the philosophy of their teams, their differences from the rest of the industry, their distinctions, their collaborations as well as the new trends and possibilities that they have identified in gastronomic tourism.

She emphasized the importance of the synergies and voluntary actions they have carried out to promote the intangible cultural heritage of every place, paths, gastronomy, and folklore.

The combination of Primary Production, Culture and Interactive Tourism through Special Events which can show the identity of each place individually with the relevant synergies in order to strengthen the local community and to benefit from the growing tourism receipts.

Mr. Christos Mantas, Food Engineer and founding member of “Hellenic Paths”(“Ellinika Monopatia”) closed the dialogue and presentation at the gastronomic forum, explaining, that Food Engineering from inaccessible and difficult to understand as a science is becoming a useful tool in the everyday life of restaurants, producers, and small scale local producers, giving them the right certification.
A certification that can ensure, the secure-safe visit to a multifunction farm by visitors, to the surplus value of the producer’s product to be promoted –exported with all the standards in the international markets.
Finally it can be certificated the kitchen of the restaurants or the products that Chefs or owners use-buy, and whether that products they represent the local products or not.

We would like to thank once again the Chef’s club, special thanks to Mr. Milto Karouba, Mr Anastasios Protopsaltis, and to Mr. Tassos Toli for the opportunity that they gave us to present our actions.

Over 70 exhibitors from all over Peloponnese they supported this festival-exhibition from the 2nd of June till the 2nd of July at the square of Aristotelis Onasis in the port of Nafplio.
